Visit Armenia, the guide

A particularly onerous geography, add infrastructure networks work, as evidenced by both the state of its roads and railways. The country can happily rely on the Yerevan Airport, located in the capital, to provide a connection with foreign countries. Unfriendly, its continental climate also causes drastic between the very cold winters and summers where temperatures can climb above 30 degrees for several days in a row temperature ranges: differences in altitude only amplify this phenomenon .

Its current political situation does not predispose more for more openness: the country is indeed in conflict with Azerbaijan because of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani populated mainly by Armenians autonomous enclave. Relations are no better with Turkey, reminiscent still fresh of the Armenian genocide in 1915 and caused thousands of Armenian deaths.

Yet this small country of itself almost manages to attract tourists because of its natural beauty. While almost all of the territory is at over 1000 meters above sea level, the country located on the border of Europe and Asia offers to see the majesty of its vertices. Until 1915, the culmination of Armenia was Mount Ararat, which rises to 5160 meters. But since this mountain is in Turkey, the 4095 meter high Mount Aragats have propelled instead of new climax of Armenia. Not far behind, the chain of Gegham also boasts a high point, Mount Ajdahak, about 3597 meters high.

Countries while height, Armenian collar part of the same trend: 2410 meters for the Selim Pass, 2344 meters for the neck Vorotan and 2346 meters for the Sisian. If adherence to these heights remains a matter of delight for lovers of nature tourism, traffic in this nature is difficult. If the vegetation is very brief, as a result of a major movement of deforestation, the lakes are also characteristic of the Armenian nature that Sevan, located some 1900 meters above sea level, is one of the other essential nature Armenia just after Mount Ararat.

The geography of the country could be a treaty by itself: Armenia also has the distinction of being located in an area of high seismic activity: December 7, 1988, the country suffered an earthquake extremely violent that caused the death of some 25 to 30 000 people and the destruction of the city of Leninakan, which is now called Gyumri. In addition to its very particular landscapes, Armenia also visit because of its rich historical past and the profusion of buildings dating back to the times IX or X century AD. Yerevan, the capital, is thus one of the oldest cities of the world: it was founded back in 782 BC when King Argichti had built a fortress and named it Erebuni, which is none other than the etymological name Yerevan .

The pink city, as it is commonly known for his constructions tufa rock that pink and ocher volcanic origin, is gradually beginning to break free from the influence of Soviet architecture: the squares and streets names connoted too were renamed and Soviet-style monuments dismantled. Western influence requires, the city is now full of restaurants, shops and many shops. Small feature also: Yerevan is a city where the fountains abound .
